Of course it is. Liberals refuse to allow America to drill domestically,
build new refineries, build new LNG plants or process the caustic chemicals
and reagents necessary for fuel cell & hydrogen cell research. LIEberals
have put us in-between a rock and a hard place, yet they continue to drive
more & more. What's wrong with this picture??? Wait I know...let's wait
until the A-rabs run out of crude...then have them come begging to us!!! I

Liberals constantly press for a higher CAFE standard (just 5 mpg
higher, and the middle east becomes an SEP), alternative energy
sources, and cleaner (and thus more efficient industry). Right
wingers prefer to sit in their own wastes, kissing up to people who
want to kill them, and whine loudly.

just a little more than an hour ago, but unlike last year, there's no
extensive mention of alleged terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden. A
senior State Department official tells CNN the U.S. government made a
mistake in focusing so much energy on bin Laden and 'personalizing
terrorism.'"

Supply isn't the problem.

We just "liberated" the second-largest oil producing nation on the planet,
and eliminated all trade sanctions there.

As to what is or isn't "allowed" - Republicans have now controlled Congress
for over 8 years, and have had the control of the White House and Congress
both for three and a half.

For 2 1/2 years the GOP has controlled the House, Senate and presidency.
They sat around in meetings where the Democrats were often not invited
or allowed to attend and ran things. Apparently they were not doing
business, they were having circle jerks instead.

And they didn't do anything.

You can't blame anybody but the GOP.

Wrong.

From

Despite the new cloture rule, however, filibusters continued to be an
effective means to block legislation, due in part to the fact that a

Reagan, Bush,Sr and Bush,Jr,loser are the problem.
They made no effort on CAFE.
They made no effort to get SUV's included in CAFE.
They made NO effort on alternate sources.
They made a big effort with Cheney's secret oil conference to get more oil
pumped.
That's all they know...pump oil,pump oil,pump oil.
President Kerry will show you the way
The first thing Reagan did when he got into the WH was to
stop federal funding of alternative energy research.
That is 24 years of wasted time.

TWENTY FOUR YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since then we are at all time highs in oil imports.

What Chevron is doing is closing an "obsolete" plant to create more
efficiency. It seems that California treeguggers really didn't want
the plant, so they kept impossing ever more stringent operating
rules. Chevron had enough. The bailed out. I wish every business
in Kaaalifooornia would bail out. Let the fuckign treehugers live

But, billary, you were crediting Bush for lower gas prices a
while ago. Why did Shell close a California refinery in the midst
of an alleged shortage?
Post by BÎllary
Of course it is. Liberals refuse to allow America to drill
domestically, build new refineries, build new LNG plants or
process the caustic chemicals and reagents necessary for fuel
cell & hydrogen cell research. LIEberals have put us in-between a
rock and a hard place, yet they continue to drive more & more.
What's wrong with this picture??? Wait I know...let's wait until
the A-rabs run out of crude...then have them come begging to
us!!! I like that plan!!!!!!

B.S,
Yes. A seperate problem actually.
Many years ago, the Arabs caught on to the fact that price of oil alone
wasn't where the profits were, gas refining was where the profits were.
And made money from that too.
The problem now is demand is high thanks to SUVs and big vehicles here,
AND surging demand in India and China where economic successes over
ten years have put many cars on the road there.
Here, we have about saturated capacity, and and overseas refineries
are near capacity too.

That means prices go up like everything else.

Add that on top of high oil/bbl costs and you have record prices.
Its a double whammy.

I note in today's Houston Chronicle, an investigation has been opened into
oil prices. California electrical price fun and games?
We shall see.

Yeah but unlike GWB, Reagan actually had some positives. He dumped a ton of
money into biomedical research. His legacy could have been US dominance of
the biomedical research world. Except Bush is destroying that legacy. So
sad.

Of course gasoline is more expensive than four years ago. Prices do go
up as time passes.

Adjusted for inflation, gasoline should be $3.00 a gallon now.
Gasoline prices have hindered into SUV sales. Isn't that what
environmentalists want? Leftists want us to be like Europe. Paying
double the amount for gas at the pump would put us on par with
Europe.Let's see, doubling the price of gas will certainly impact
employment in the USA, a 10% unemployment rate would definitely put us
on par with Europe. The USA's GDP is double its nearest global
competitor, China. Germany being the EU's representative has 1/5 fifth
the GDP of the USA. Europe deserves to pay higher gasoline prices.

Yeah, isn't it wonderful how a dying economy makes interest rates

Another Communist coddling liberal who is upset at millions of Americans
able to afford their own home instead of having to depend onGovt subsidised
public housing .

The housing market has been one of the strongest sectors of the economy in
recent years, helped along by the lowest mortgage rates in a generation.

In turn, the housing market has helped support consumer spending, which
makes up more than two-thirds of the total economy. A surge in home prices
made homeowners feel wealthier, easing the sting of a three-year bear market
in stocks, and a boom in mortgage refinancing cut mortgage borrowers'
monthly payments and gave them some extra cash to spend.

Rates began to rise in the second half of 2003, stifling the refi boom and
leading many analysts to expect the housing market to slow down in 2004.
Sales of new and pre-owned homes did, in fact, slow down in October and
November, the latest data available.

But interest rates have stayed stubbornly low, keeping housing demand high.
Last week, the average rate for a 30-year mortgage fell to 5.66 percent, its
lowest level since July 11, according to mortgage financing firm Freddie

You stupid Inbred redneck moron. THE THREAD WAS TITLED " GAS IS CHEAPER

THATS A FACT !
Of course, it's quite a bit higher than it was when these clowns were
bashing Clinton about it roughly 4 years ago...
===============
The Thousands of $$ i save on my Home Mortgage rates now under Bush
compared to the higher rates under Clinton not only allow me to scoff at
these " high gas prices" but i bought a new SUV too just to piss liberals
off.
And I bet you make payments on it too, just like the rest of the
broke, brainwashed victims of marketing with car payments and credit
cards. I'm glad I've never owned a credit card, a vehicle payment, OR
a mortgage (paid cash for my modest home), and was smart enough to
learn early on that credit makes you a slave. I just saved for
everything starting in my teens.

BTW, if you were a smart investor, you'd know that brand new cars are
BAD investments. The second you drive it off the lot, you've lost from
25-42% of what you paid for it. It's a pretty high price to pay just
to "look good" to your friends and neighbors, and to "piss of
liberals", as you put it. Let some sucker buy it new, then pick it up
a year later, paying CASH for it, at its depreciated price. The total
cost of ownership of a used vehicle, no matter what the age is, is
MUCH cheaper than buying it new, as long as you aren't a dumbass and
finance it. Every truck I've owned has been 2-3 years old, with low
miles, and talked down to a reasonable price because I flashed CASH. I
still have my '97 Yukon that I bought in 1998 with 26,000 miles on it.
I just dropped $550 in brakes and $350 in new tires into it. That's
the most I've spent in a year since I've owned it. Total, I've spent
less than $2,500 on maintenance for the Yukon. I bought my wife a 2001
Camry last year that runs like a dream and I've only had to drop $300
for tires and nominal other amounts of cash for regular maintenance on
it.

But hey, I should just keep my mouth shut. After all, it's brainwashed
suckers like you that allow me to buy everything at LOW prices, using
CASH, when you screw up and use credit for your purchases. Thanks!
It's much appreciated!

====================

You lying Liberasl are so fucking moronic to think anyone believes your BS.
Every public data source proves you are full of maggot shit.

If gas prices were as high today as they were in the late 1970s, we would
now be paying about $6 a gallon for gas. Today's price at the pump is higher
than it was as recently as 1985.

The same is true, by the way, for the cost of oil. Adjusted for wage growth,
oil is slightly cheaper today than it was 20, 30, and 50 years ago, and
five-times cheaper than 100 years ago. How can gas and oil be cheaper since
we've used so much of it over time? Well, thanks to human innovation, we are
always finding new sources of oil, while at the same time technology makes
it cheaper to drill for it.

http://www.cato.org/dailys/05-13-04.html

However, even with the outrage over the prices, oil is still much cheaper
than it was during the first Gulf War, when it topped out at the equivalent
of $57 US (in 2004 dollars) a barrel. That jump was also the result of
political instability, and fuel prices fell after the war ended.

So we could see a similar decline in prices once current hostilities cease.
But high prices, while detrimental to the economy, can have a positive
effect -- they prompt consumers to emphasize conservation. So when gas
prices rise, the environment benefits.

In any case, if Canadians do want someone to blame for the high prices, they
need look no further than their own government.

While all money raised through provincial gas taxes goes back into the
transportation infrastructure -- making it a user tax -- more than 90 per
cent of the federal gas tax goes into general revenue, which means it's
nothing more than a cash cow.

The federal gas tax, unlike the world oil market, is something within our
control. So rather than investigating the gas companies, perhaps the feds
should put themselves under the microscope.

Thats a claim by the Bush campaign. Now, lets talk facts...Dick Cheney
wanted a 1.2 trillion dollar gas tax as recent as 1986...is he a liberal? In
fact, he also said ""let us rid ourselves of the fiction that low oil prices
are somehow good for the United States."

Not like it matters to Republicans, but John Kerry opposed Cheney's
legislation, along with 15 Republicans.

No argument here on the facts, although Canada is not as liberal as you
think. Nonetheless, the article is slightly outdated (April 11th I believe
it was). Since then, the average gas price has climbed to $ 2.10 per gallon.
One of two things will happen :

1. At a 7 cents per week increase, sometime by mid-June the gas prices
should hit $ 2.45 per gallon, and you'll have lost your "gas is cheaper than
it was in the late 1970's and early 1980's" argument. At that time I suspect
we'll hear things like "well its still cheaper than it is in Europe and
Canada!" LOL

2. It won't hit $ 2.45, and you will go on with your "gas is still cheaper
than it was in the late-70's/early-80's." Let me ask you this - do you
really think thats a good argument? What if unemployment was higher than any
other time in history except the Great Depression...do you really think we
should be harping about semantics here, talking about adjusted for inflation
numbers, and not focusing on the issue at hand - that Bush's energy donors
are getting rich off these oil prices? You can't deny the fact that had this
happened under Clinton's watch, your approach would be 180 degrees around.
Of course, Republicans never let a silly little think like objectivity get
in the way.

One of the reasons gas prices were lower during Clinton was because the
dollar was stronger.

The dollar is weak now because of Bush's deficits, which are making
imports (like oil) more expensive.

say that, adjusted for inflation, it should be $3.00? that in just
5 short years, inflation has more than *tripled*...?
Yeah, that's why we should hate Bill Clinton so much, all those lower
gas prices and low unemployment
=====================
You liberals are so stupidand your reading comprehension is
atrocious. Even Liberal Canadians know Gas is cheaper today than 20
years ago.
Radcons keep touting this but it only works when they cite the highest
ever adjusted-for-inflation prices. Gas is much more expensive today than
it was 22 years ago. What kind of morally bankrupt person picks out the
single most expensive price ever in history for gas and then says "Gas is
10% cheaper today." Answer: a Bush-supporter.

http://tinyurl.com/ysqsx

Notice 1978? $1.80 inflation adjusted?
Notice 2004? $2.08 inflation adjusted?

You are morally and intellectually bankrupt. What's worse is that you are
simply parrotting the nonsense someone else programmed you with
(Limbaugh?). You have no ability to think, reason or research. You
swallow whatever bullshit your lying radcon talk show host tells you.

It was cheaper after September 11, 2001 also.

I think the point that is being made is that gasoline prices are *far*
below the 1981 inflation-adjusted peak of $2.94. Since 1986-87, the
inflation adjusted price has kept in a band of about $1.25 to $1.75,
for the most part.

The same is true, by the way for the cost of electricity and oil. Oil is

one-half as expensive as 50 years ago, and despite the recent black outs,

Of course, when premium is well above $2 a gallon, this is not good, but

a gallon gas today is cheaper than gas was 20 years ago in real terms, so I
m not really concerned -- yet -- about price.

When you talk about the cost of gas the price at the pump is not the
whole story. There are a lot of hidden costs you're not taking into
account. For instance the cost of two wars in the Gulf, the
criminally inflated cost of 'rebuilding' Iraq, the cost of military
occupation and the biggest embassy in the world, and of another war if
ever the 'sovereign' new govenrment of Iraq decides to nationalize the
oil business to keep more wealth in the country.

GOP Delusions of Triumph

Dr. Paul Krugman, The New York Times Op-Ed Page, may 25, 2004

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/25/opinion/25KRUG.html?hp

Republicans, we hear, are frustrated by polls showing that the public
has a poor opinion of George Bush's economic leadership. In their
view, the good news about Mr. Bush's economic triumphs is being
drowned out by the bad news from Iraq.

A recent article in The New York Times, citing concerns of
"Republican elected officials, pollsters and strategists," put it this
way: "The creation of nearly 900,000 new jobs in the last four months
— a development that might otherwise have redefined the race in Mr.
Bush's favor — has been largely crowded out of the electorate's psyche
by images from Iraq."

Funny, isn't it? In 2002, Republican strategists used the impending
Iraq war to distract the public from the miserable economic news. Now
they're complaining that Iraq is taking voters' focus off the economy.

But is the economic news really that good? No. While the recent
economic performance is better than in the administration's first
three years, it isn't at all exceptional by historical standards. And
after those three terrible years, the economy has a lot of ground to
make up.

Let's start with the "nearly 900,000 new jobs" created in the last
four months. Is that exceptional? Well, during the first four months
of 2000, the last presidential election year, the economy created 1.1
million new jobs. An e-mail message to Bush's supporters from Ken
Mehlman, his campaign manager, takes a longer view, boasting of 1.1
million jobs created since last August (when job growth finally turned
positive). But in April 2000, payroll employment was 2.3 million
higher than in August 1999.

And that was after seven years of sustained employment growth; rapid
job growth is hard to achieve when the economy is already close to
full employment. To find a year comparable to 2004, we need to look
back to 1994, when the economy was still recovering from the first
Bush recession. In the first four months of that year, the economy
added almost 1.3 million jobs.

The experience of 1994 also gives us some indication of how likely job
growth is to "redefine" an election. Between December 1993 and
November 1994 the economy gained 3.6 million jobs, a number beyond the
Bush administration's fondest dreams. Yet voters, convinced that Bill
Clinton was leading the country astray, gave his party a severe defeat
in that year's midterm elections. So it's interesting that a new CBS
News poll finds that 65 percent of Americans believe that the country
is headed in the wrong direction — a level not seen since 1994.

If you want to convince yourself that I'm not playing games with
dates, go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Web site at stats.bls.gov.
Click on "U.S. economy at a glance," then on the green dinosaur next
to "Change in payroll employment" for a 10-year chart of monthly job
gains and losses. The chart reveals that for 37 months, from January
2001 to February 2004, the Bush administration presided over dismal
job numbers: employment for each month fell, or grew far more slowly
than the norm during the Clinton years. March and April were much
better, but they still weren't exceptional by 1990's standards.

And a mere return to Clinton-era job growth isn't enough: after all
those years of poor job performance, we need extra-rapid growth to
make up for lost time.

Here's one way to look at it. The job forecast in the 2002 Economic
Report of the President assumed that by 2004 the economy would have
fully recovered from the 2001 recession. That recovery, according to
the official projection, would lead to average payroll employment of
138 million this year — 7 million more than the actual number. So we
have a gap of 7 million jobs to make up.

And employment is chasing a moving target: it must rise by about
140,000 a month just to keep up with a growing population. In April,
the economy added 288,000 jobs. If you do the math, you discover that
President Bush needs about four years of job growth at last month's
rate to reach what his own economists consider full employment.

The bottom line, then, is that Mr. Bush's supporters have no right to
complain about the public's failure to appreciate his economic
leadership. Three years of lousy performance, followed by two months
of good but not great job growth, is not a record to be proud of.

Note, however, that the Economic Policy Institute reports that
corporate profits are up 62.2 percent in the current "recovery," while
there's been a drop of 0.6 percent in total private sector wages, not
including the cost of health insurance and other benefits.

Doesn't sound like the GDP numbers will translate into many VOTES...
Say bye bye...

More than $120 billion -- billion -- dollars have been spent thus far on our
"War on Terrorism," including our invasion of Iraq (for which Congress has
approved $25 billion more this year, looking forward to an additional $25
billion next year.) Most of this money has been and is being spent here in
the United States for military supplies and weapons and related goods and
services. This is a massive infusion of Federal money into the economy --
as were WPA, CCC and other Depression programs. Federal spending wrapped in
the American flag is no less Federal spending in frightening amounts --
running up our largest Federal deficits in history, all to try to keep an
utterly incompetent clown in office.

To quote Al Gore quoting Abraham Lincoln:
"I believe we have a duty to hold President Bush accountable -- and I
believe we will. As Lincoln said at our time of greatest trial, 'We -- even
we here -- hold the power, and bear the responsibility.'"

Too bad Bush's numbers ain't.
www.rasmussen.com

Bush's ratings for the economy?
Only 39% say he is doing an excellent or good job.
44% say he is doing a poor job.

He dropped 2% points since last poll.

People know he's spent $500 billion on deficits
to gain a faux sort of good economy just like
Reagan did. and they know the pain comes later.
Even now, the WH is warning that vast deficits will
mean large cuts in programs next budget cycle.
Head Start, education programs and others.

He's a shit and people know it.

And that economy doesn't look so good with gas above $2.00,
milk over $4.00, butter and diary products sky high, meat
and other products rocketing up in price.

Remember when Bush Daddy got stung when asked the price
per gallon of milk and didn't know?
Think Bush 43 (his IQ) would know. Or care?

I don't think the voters think so either.
