No one is buying this crap about the microfilm records of your NG
service being destroyed. This stuff is designed to be indestructible.
There could have been some minor damage but no way all the info has
been accidentally obliterated, you lying psychopath.

Although your right about DFAS, the timing and the scope of the loss is
just to convienent.

Records that could have helped clarify whether President George Bush
fulfilled his Air National Guard duties in Alabama during the Vietnam
War, as he has insisted, were inadvertently destroyed several years
ago, the Pentagon has conceded.

Defence officials say that payroll information relating not only to
President Bush but to dozens of others serving in the Guard at that
time were ruined in 1996 and 1997 during attempts to salvage
deteriorating microfiche film

You may want to post a link to that. His records was last requested in 96,
but there was a gap in them due to the fire at NARA Facilities. On July 12,
1973, a disastrous fire at NPRC (MPR) destroyed approximately 16-18 million
Official Military Personnel Files.
http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records/fire_1973.html
Those that were not destroyed the microfilm was so old by the 90's most
couldn't be read, and they were to be copied again. Much of those to include
Medical, Finance, and Military Records was lost. We are talking millions of
records here. The Pres. records was just one.

Put a sheet of it in sun light for a day or set it on fire see if it doesn't
burn faster than paper.
Some people are going to say anything to make their point even if they can't

I guess I didn't turn up the sarcasm high enough.

You can make something fireproof, tearproof, bombproof, non-reactive,
unbreakable, and otherwise indestructable... but you can't make it
sailor-proof.

make that GI proof:

"this is no shit.... we dropped off PVT Snuffy under the trees with
his TA-50 gear, a 5 gal water can, 3 MRE's, and an anvil, with orders
to guard the anvil until we came back that afternoon."

"when we got back, the water and food were gone, he was hungry and
thirsty, and the anvil was broken."

redc1c4,
ain't NUTHIN "GI proof", only "GI resistant"...... kinda sorta. %-)

Captain Murphy was a systems analyst for the USAF space program. That famous
film of the rocket sled catching on fire and the test pilot jumping out of
it? That was Captain Murphy's baby. Apparently a technician had somehow
managed to install a battery upside down or something and it exploded. When
he found out how it happened, Captain Murphy was heard to mutter "if you
give them a chance to do it wrong, they'll do it wrong." The colonel walking
away with his pants still smoldering, turned around and snapped his fingers
and said: "Murphy's Law!: If anything can go wrong, it will."

But, but, but the Bill of Rights is fool proof.

How can children in the USA be repeatedly handcuffed beaten and tortured
then sent to prison and be repeatedly raped?

George Bush kidnapped drugged and interogated me in 1982.

Unseat Florida Congressmaggot E. Clay Shaw for turning the USA into a

Nope. You just looked at the percentage of total loss on the side. Many of
those that served in VietNam to include mine was burned. I came back in 71
had a break then went back in. Army and Air Force includes Guard and
Reserve, as well as those drafted.

You know what is AWOL and what DFR is and what desertion is and how it
is applied to those without connections. You probably also know how
different the guard was during the Vietnam conflict and today. It was the
refuge of the brats of the privileged.

What do you think of those wounded troops kept in substandard WWII
barracks at Ft. Stewart for months without proper medical care?

What do you think of Bush's changes to the medical benefits of retired
vets?

What do you think of a war started without the proper planning, troop
levels, and combat gear supplies.

What do you think of the slashing of the VA budget, closing of VA
Hospitals, trying to reduce combat pay while guys were still being
killed, cutting funding for the already crappy base housing?

Come on guy, Bush isn't pro vet, pro soldier, he's pro wealthy and
nothing more.

Did you know that he brought that 'ranch' in 1999 and that it has only
one cow and it's a pet?

The guys a phoney. He's what Texan's call 'All hat and no cattle'.

What do you think of the administration trying to stick all the blame for

you angry. You of all people know those kids were not responsible for an
entire prison.

Your post is disjointed, conflicting, and childish. I can tell your a
kicked out piece of crap that has a chip on his narrow shoulders. Your
failure to perform is your problem and not the problem of the officers
that tried to lead a piece of crap like you. You have nothing worth
considering and are in my kill file. Adios MF
Know why Warrants are now wearing the Branch Insignia instead of the
Toilet Papered Turkey?
So the rest of us will know which branch is being embarassed.
I'm starting to remember what I "miss" most about being in the US military.
The quality of the exchanges.
But hey, its improved since my day.
Snort.

Your talking to the wrong Warrant - aviation warrant/AH-64 pilot/test pilot

I wouldn't trade places with any other rank. I'll take my retired pay, my
wings, and my flight pay over any NCO or RLO. We got the good looking gals,
drove the fast cars, had the fun and fought the wars and because we were
promoted to our last rank at 13-15 years in we had no reasons to jump thru
hoops and could tell a full bird to screw off as easily as a private. CW4
was the best rank. We were the best pilots, the instructor pilots, the
safety officers and the test pilots and when there was a senior warrant in
the aircraft he was the Aircraft Commander while the RLO sat on his hands
and kept his mouth shut. When the aviation brigade commanders wanted to
know something they went to their senior warrants not to their junior
officers or their NCO's. Anyone who served in the pre 2000 army knows this
and many envied our knowledge, style and balls. Whinning won't change the
truth and won't decrease my pay so you do what you have to do to make
yourself feel better.

Wow... now there's something that's way different between the Army and Navy.
But, then, in the navy, you have to be a chief before you can put in your
Warrent package (thus, there really is no WO-1 in the navy (it exists, but
you don't hold it for long, if at all... I've never met one). Granted, the
occifers tend to snub WOs (until they need someone to fix their
incompetence), but the enlisted tend to treat them with more regard.

What do you think of the slashing of the VA budget, closing of VA
Hospitals, trying to reduce combat pay while guys were still being
killed, cutting funding for the already crappy base housing?
Congress yet again, and the senior staff of the military
(Officers and Warrants, FYI)
You can't put everything on congress for this. They share the blame with
Bush, but they don't shoulder it all themselves. If Bush vetoes their bills
and they override him, then that's different.

However, as many mistakes as Bush has made, I have no doubt that Kerry will
be far worse. At least with Bush, I know he's trying to make things work
the way they should (ie, reducing punative tax rates and government
intervention). I also know that Bush understands that a smoking gun usually
means someone's been shot, and he doesn't want to wait for that to happen.

Got a name & a cite (defined as a credible news source, not NewsMax or
AlFranken style) for this one, cowboy? Didn't think so.

: A retired w4 here. Ok - now I'm confused. An NCO used to taking care of
: troops is thinking of voting for Bush? This can't be. Tell me it ain't
: so.

Not thinking about it, going to do it, for the second time. You think I'd
waste my precious vote on some little rich boy who sucks Ted Kennedy's
behind and wants to take my money away from and give it to people who won't
do for themselves? Not in this lifetime.
:
: You know what is AWOL and what DFR is and what desertion is and how it
: is applied to those without connections.

You apparently don't though as it appears you may be trying to insinuate
something about the current POTUS.

: You probably also know how
: different the guard was during the Vietnam conflict and today. It was the
: refuge of the brats of the privileged.

Yeah, sorta like the 45-day tour, two scratches, and a bloody nose and back
home to Massachusetts to turn his back on his fellow soldiers wonder boy you
apparently idolize?

:
: What do you think of those wounded troops kept in substandard WWII
: barracks at Ft. Stewart for months without proper medical care?

I think it's deplorable that the tax dollars the Democrats stole from the
military for their welfare programs caused it.
:
: What do you think of Bush's changes to the medical benefits of retired
: vets?

I have Tri-Care Prime and the VA and no problems with either of them.

:
: What do you think of a war started without the proper planning, troop
: levels, and combat gear supplies.

Everything about the war was fine in my opinion, it was, and is, the
post-war effort that is the problem. I'm not convinced more troops is/was
the answer nor am I a tactician so I can't tell you what
woulda/coulda/shoulda been done like so many retired star officers seem to
be doing these days.
:
: What do you think of the slashing of the VA budget, closing of VA
: Hospitals, trying to reduce combat pay while guys were still being
: killed, cutting funding for the already crappy base housing?

I have very fine VA care where I am located, plenty of doctors, little or no
waiting for appointments so I don't see your point as I have not been a
so-called "victim" of the cuts. The government has to tighten its belt
someplace, and from what I've seen, the VA was overdue for a clean-up.

Nobody tried to "reduce" combat pay, it was temporarily inflated. Perhaps
you missed that news. Hostile Fire Pay and Family Separation Allowance were
given a temporary increase by the Congress with a set expiration date when
those entitlements would return to their previous levels. They are STILL at
a temporarily inflated rate but are included in next years' budget to be
increased permanently. You ever hear about Hardship Duty Pay - Tour and
Additional Incentive Pay, Chiefy? They amount to an additional $1000.00 per
month (tax free) for those who spends any portion of a month over 12 months
in the theater of operations. Sounds like an increase to me. How about
some of the special reenlistment incentives created for those folks? You
should read Army Times once in a while apparently.

:
: Come on guy, Bush isn't pro vet, pro soldier, he's pro wealthy and
: nothing more.

So the current POTUS is on equal footing with Kerry, I mean, except for the
hair.

:
: Did you know that he brought that 'ranch' in 1999 and that it has only
: one cow and it's a pet?

I spent 21 years in the Army, retired, moved to Wisconsin and bought a
60-acre tree farm, and I didn't even own a good chainsaw, so what?

:
: The guys a phoney. He's what Texan's call 'All hat and no cattle'.

Pot, kettle, black in your case.

:
: What do you think of the administration trying to stick all the blame for
: the prison crappola on a few low level enlisted guys? That has to make
: you angry. You of all people know those kids were not responsible for an
: entire prison.

I'll tell you what, Chief, I worked at an Army prison camp (US Army
Retraining Brigade, Fort Riley) for my first three and half years of
service. Many of my friends were MOS 95C (corrections specialists) and I
know what the "low level enlisted guys" are capable of doing all on their
own to make life miserable for their prisoners when they are Americans and
fellow soldiers who have gone wrong, so it does not surprise me one bit that
there is a good possibility that those lower enlisted folks were doing what
has been claimed on their own volition, particularly with their "leaders".
I mean, from BG DamageControl Karpinski, to the relieved brigade CSM, and
every one in between, their internal leadership failed them And by the way,
those warrants out at Fort Carson charged with murdering the Iraqi general -
friends of yours?

When they were destroyed is when the Bush's favorite Col. promoted to

Iraq ?

Since he is quick to tar everyone with a broad brush if it suits his

Mr Kerry is running around making claims to have great plans to fix various
things, health care and such. I ask then, why has he not been introducing
bills at his current job to implement those fixes ?

He has been a senator how long now ?

I am, unfortunately away from the maintenance field nowdays, doing the BN

The votes were a done deal - they were passed without his vote.
Presidential candidates always miss votes while running for office and
the opposition always makes a big issue out of it. It's a tempest in a
teapot. No Big Thing. His vote or lack of it would have made no
difference. On the ones where it would have made a difference he tried to
vote.

introducing bills at his current job to implement those fixes ?
Because the current congress wouldn't pass anything like that. He did
support the attempt made in the first Clinton term. A president will have
a much better chance. A Senator is just 1/100th of a half, of a third, of
one branch of government. A president is 1/3 of the government. Kinda
like comparing a squad leader to a brigade commander. A squad leader can
wish all day long but in the end he's going in the direction the Brigade
commander sets.

Yep, I spent my last three years out of maintenance. Sure did miss
working with the young'uns. I got stuck at officer assignments. But it
was rewarding recruiting guys for the various warrant fields.

I always meant to take a look at the M1 turbine package, never had the
time. I got to drive the chieftain in Germany. It was a blast. Our sister
unit was a brit unit, 662 in Munster, and every year we'd get togather.
We'd fly them around in the cobras and they would let us drive their
vehicles. But I always spent more time looking at tanks through sights
than up close. I figured if I didn't get flight school when I was drafted
for Vietnam I'd put in for either boats or tanks. I just wanted to drive
and fix something at that age. Next year will be ten years retired. I
imagine the service is quite different now days. Glad I spent the 25
years and glad I retired when I did. I hear the warrents are just junior
officers now days and wear the branch insigna of the different branches -
that true?

BTW - thanks for the civil response. Kinda of a rare bird around here.

I disagree but then that's what elections are for.

You take care.

Absolutely. Positively.

If you can keep the discussion a discussion I'd be interested in why
you think Kerry would do less for the military personnel and the VA
than Bush. Tank fixer - M1? I was also in maintenance, long hours but
rewarding.
Since he has been managing to miss the votes to authorize things
needed in Iraq ?
The votes were a done deal - they were passed without his vote.
Presidential candidates always miss votes while running for office and
the opposition always makes a big issue out of it. It's a tempest in a
teapot. No Big Thing. His vote or lack of it would have made no
difference. On the ones where it would have made a difference he tried to
vote.

Mr Kerry is running around making claims to have great plans to fix
various things, health care and such. I ask then, why has he not been
introducing bills at his current job to implement those fixes ?
Because the current congress wouldn't pass anything like that. He did
support the attempt made in the first Clinton term. A president will have
a much better chance. A Senator is just 1/100th of a half, of a third, of
one branch of government. A president is 1/3 of the government. Kinda
like comparing a squad leader to a brigade commander. A squad leader can
wish all day long but in the end he's going in the direction the Brigade
commander sets.
However it is his job to introduce legislation he feels should be passed. A
squad leader can only make suggestions, a Senator has a greater obligation.

And the last time I check the President cannot introduce anything, he has to
get someone to do that for him.

I am, unfortunately away from the maintenance field nowdays, doing the
BN staff thing.
But I have on occasion worked on M60A1, M60A1-TTS, M60A3, M901's,
Bradleys and M1's, mostly turret but some hull and fire control.
I hear the warrents are just junior
officers now days and wear the branch insigna of the different branches -
that true?
The M1 is a blast to drive, more power than you can use when the turbine is
spun up.
And the suspension to match, I've taken a near 90 degree corner and not had
to lift off the throttle. In fact you don't want to, takes too long to spin
back up.
It's not a bad pack to pull, other than the sadist that designed where the
hydraulic connectors are. I just LOVE to have to lay on top of the pack to
disconnect them when there hasn't been time to let it cool down much.

And yes they are now wearing branch, I was teasing a couple of WO friends of
mine the other day.

FX: <SIGH>

Calling microfilm indestructible is a sign of critical ignorance. Most
forms of high-tech information storage is inferior to acid free paper.
Microfilm is more inferior than most. It was never designed to be
indestructible. It was designed to be small. It also provided some
marginal efficiencies in rapid searching. It is still, thin, flimsy,
flammable, gets brittle rapidly with age, and gets flexed a lot when
being used. These are all bad things for archival material.

Back in the day, (1960s?) the State Department was trying to microfilm
newspaper archives. The process involved cutting the pages out of bound
copies, which is regrettable. They then destroyed the paper originals,
because they were sure that microfilm was superior, being modern and
all. The microfilms are now crumbling, and the paper copies, where they
exist, are the only references left.

(It gets worse. The British Museum, a solidly competent oufit, did
archival copies of an important 11th century document called the
Domesday Book. They did them on laserdisk. Not one single working reader
exists for these "permanent" copies. Scholars wishing to do original
research use either paper reproductions, or, if necessary, the original
manuscript, which, with care, should be good for another couple of
millenia.)

Is it convenient for W to have his service records disappear? I think
so. Is the destruction proof of uniquely military incompetence,
Republican conspiracy, Democratic dirty tricks, machinations of the
Masons, or little green Martians who eat cellulose? No.

I think it's convienant for Kerry, not for Bush. The notion that Bush when
UA was dispelled in 2000, by the NYT, of all publications (not exactly the
National Review). Since then, witnesses have stepped forward (and, as
expected, were subject to slander from the left) to say he was where he was
supposed to be. If people were reasonable, this wouldn't be an issue
anymore. If.
